Toodling up I-94 in Wisconsin, one runs into a raft of cheese chops and cranberry emporiums, as well. About halfway between Madison and Eau Claire sits the burg of Black River Falls, and off the interstate you'll find the Mocha Mouse, a fairly unique combination of retailer, with a cheese shop, wine, locally made canned goods, gifts, and a coffee shop. They are open 8A -8P every day. Stopped in for breakfast on Christmas Eve, and was the only diner; was interested to note on each table top were individual ramekins or mixed variety of croutons. My inquiry to the waiter revealed these were for the beer cheese soup. Dang. Having already ordered breakfast, I added a bowl of soup to go to my order. (I did find the croutons made for an excellent appetizer - lol). Breakfast was a straight up affair, with a couple eggs, thick slab o' ham, and house-baked marble rye toast. It was prepared as ordered and a good value. It didn't take me getting far down the road before I had to dip into the soup, which had cooled enough so that I could just chug it from its take-out bowl. Some of the best I have ever had, seriously. Worth a stop. Cheese gifts by mail available online.

Great coffee and food! Chicken Caesar wrap is my favorite! This place has all the cheese, beer, wine, and souvenirs any traveler could want!

Looking for a lunch spot halfway to the Dells. Decided to stop in because of the favorable reviews on yelp. I've been to this exit many o times (memorable for its orange moose and mouse on cheese statues) but never to this "cottage in the woods" diner. Once you step in the place it is exploding with knick knacks, wines, beers, cheeses, meats and candy. They have a greeter once you step in otherwise you have no idea where to start. We sit down in the dining area, which is an odd layout and all the walls are decked with gifts that other customers browse at around you while you eat. The ceiling has hand painted characters from the board game "Candy land" which is a bit creepy and Hansel & Gretel feel I first have the homemade beer cheese soup with croutons which is probably the best I've ever had. Then I have a chicken, wisconsin cheese and sprouts wrapped in spinach tortilla which is average. My gf has the Reuben which is much better Upstairs is a used bookstore with a decent selection. Random lady was siting at a table upstairs on a laptop (not sure what that was about). We then take off with a block of 20 year old cheese to try out. Everyone enjoyed it, and worth checking out, especially for some wisconsin cheese, beer and wine.

They have some of the best wraps I have ever had. And while you wait they have a great gift shop with local cheese and beers. The people are really friendly. They also have some Amish made candies and etc Get off the interstate, drive BY the chain stores and eat here! The take out is quick and the parking is ample.

Looking for Landjager for a friend, so stopped in. I always drive by this place to/from MN and WI. It's a nice little place to stop (avoid the over-priced gas station nearby if you can!). Lots of local cheese, meats and wine. Great place to pick up snacks and treats. And the staff is very friendly!

A wondrous place! And a good quick lunch spot right off the highway. Nice selection of cheeses and local brews. Try anything fresh baked. Scones were unexpectedly cookie-like, chewy and delicious! I wish I had three stomachs so I could eat more of them!!!

Food is amazing. Right off the highway but would be worth the drive if there was one. Fresh baked bread for the sandwich. Beer cheese soup was amazing. Bookstore and seating upstairs. Our whole group was very satisfied. Will definitely come again.

Taco Tuesday!!! Deep fried tacos and fish tacos! New sweet potato tots and jalapeño poppers. If you ask they'll make a coffee shake with their Irish coffee ice cream. Mocha mouse coffee cake is super moist and not too much chocolate. Make sure to get Biscotti with your hot chai tea. Teas come blended if your running hot. Best food place in Black River Falls, no doubt about it.

Stopped for a light meal coming home from the cabin. The beer cheese soup was absolutely fabulous. Hubby had the burger topped with brisket, said it was very good. I had the BLT, good but nothing special. Cheese curds also good, but we've had better. Great little gem and a nice change from the typical fast food chains along the interstate. We'll be back!

This is a combo cheese shop and restaurant with an impressive selection of Wisconsin wine and beer. We arrived in time for dinner, so sat and enjoyed a sandwich. The food is simple but well prepared and delicious, and a welcome addition up here where all you can usually find are Culver's and McD's. We took home some chocolate covered coffee beans, which helped keep us alert behind the wheel. Wine and beer are available by the bottle, or dine in and have a glass with your meal. Nice folks.

They have the best cashew crunch on earth. We stop every time we pass and buy 3 boxes of the crunch. Food is also good for good price.

Wow, is this place kitschy! Combination souvenir shop, cheese store, wine and beer shop, candy store and restaurant, it's a great alternative to endless fast-food chains for a meal while traveling. It's just a stone's throw from Interstate 94 near Black River Falls and Hwy. 54 (exit 116?), so it's a quick-off, quick-on if you're trying to make time. The service is fast, friendly and attentive; we had the beer-cheese soup and club sandwich, both of which were just right.

It was a neat little place, but my lime chicken wrap was not very good. They have lots of beer, but its a pretty narrow focus. I'm glad I stopped, but likely won't return if given the option.

Stopped in today and do not be fooled by the gift shop. This place is definitely a restaurant I ordered the beer cheese soup and that came out first and went with their specialty chicken sandwich of the day. The sandwich was pretty good it would've been better if I wouldn't have skipped the avocado. The beer cheese soup was definitely cheesey and I cleaned it up. Staff was very friendly and got me in and out quick being kind of in a rush. M Warmed me right up after getting all wet four wheeling.

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast on our way home to Minneapolis. Service was great and so was the food. I had the corned beef hash and my wife had blueberry French toast. Both were great! People were very friendly. The store and the best beer selection I have seen in the area. We will definitely be back again.

We stopped here the morning after attending a wedding in town. We didn't know they served regular food until we looked at the site, as the sign outside lists cheese, coffee, etc but no meals. Happily surprised, we walked in and were immediately confused as it only looks like a cheese shop. Luckily a staff person spotted our confused faces and seated us right away. The staff was very nice, the server was attentive and friendly. Service was quick and the surroundings were actually cozy. They stock an impressive and fun range of wines, but we were too hungover to appreciate. We ordered fried pickles and broccoli bites, which were both extra tasty. The main meal disappointed though. My friend's wrap was dripping with sauce, the beer cheese soup looked like molten cheese which made me feel quite nauseous even though I didn't eat it, Boyfriend's and my sandwich were beyond bland. The waffle fries were pretty good, but the regular fries were poorly cooked. It was all fine and edible, but seemed cheap. My "cranberry horseradish" sauce was just cranberry and boring at that. There's barely anything else in this area, so go ahead and stop in if you need a bite. They have a great cheese selection to take home!

Stopped in briefly for breakfast. The corned beef hash was reasonably good, the eggs that came with it were perfect. My cappuccino was a huge disappointment (more of a latte than a cappuccino). Service was fine. They do have a small but nice selection of cheese and beer as well. The used bookstore upstairs was a bit of a mess.

I'm only giving this place a two star instead of one because the shop attached has a good variety of cheese, butter, ice cream, etc. We stopped here on our way through Wisconsin on the way to Chicago. My husband and I both got a burger. Mine was literally meat on a roll. Pickles on the side. No lettuce, no tomato, no onions, no mayo. Nothing. No fries. Just meat and a roll. And it was ten bucks! My husband got the juicy Lucy. He took one bite and the cheese fell completely out of the burger into the basket. The burgers both tasted like they were cooked on a skillet instead of a grill. I literally could have made something better at home. I'll never be back. But the ice cream was good so that's something I guess. Also, if you stop while traveling, be aware there is one bathroom. I stood in a ten minute line.

I ate a late lunch here with two of my coworkers. The parking lot next to this place was small but wasn't crowded when we came. This place was a cheese shop, a bookstore (upstairs), and a restaurant. We didn't know if we ordered then sat or if we were going to be seated until someone came out to greet us and were seated. I heard about their Dawn's Beer Cheese Soup ($1.95 for a cup and $2.95 for a bowl) and I definitely wanted that. The menu ranged from appetizers to wraps to burgers to sandwiches and to salads. The Juicy Lucy ($7.99) sounded great to me so I ordered that. We split the White Cheese Curds ($5.95) and all ordered a Point Root Beer on tap. The Dawn's Beer Cheese Soup came out first and that was delicious. If you don't like cheese then that would be the wrong thing to order obviously. It was good and I should have saved some for my Juicy Lucy (I'll explain later in the review). The White Cheese Curds were nothing special to me but were definitely fresh. We waited a while later before our food came out. The waitress wanted me about eating the Juicy Lucy so I decided to cut it in half. To my surprise, there was no cheese in the middle of the meat patties like it said in the description. This was when I thought I should have saved some of that Dawn's Beer Cheese Soup to put it in the burger. My burger was dry because of that and I ended up adding ketchup to it. I didn't want to ask for a new one because it already took a long time for the food to come out even though we were the only ones there. We had a meeting to go to so we couldn't spend more time waiting. Be prepared to wait if you go to the restaurant. There was a lot of cheese and beer in the store so you could buy some of that.

I wish that the Mocha Mouse was a reasonable driving distance from me as I would come here every day. This place is awesome for a bite and Wisconsin souvenir shopping! The BF and I stopped in for lunch and enjoyed our experience. Our server was polite and prompt. We ordered the beer cheese soup, a chef's salad, turkey sandwich, and BLT. The food was all homemade and freshly prepared. Make sure to try the beer cheese soup, it was very delicious. The soup is prepared using the Wisconsin beer, Spotted Cow by New Glarus. My sandwich was on a croissant with turkey with smoked provolone and cranberry horseradish, super yummy. The salad was fresh and I really liked the housemade ranch dressing. Tried a bite of my BF's BLT, it was awesome too. We ended up buying a bunch of Wisconsin cheese and beer to take back home. Absolutely recommend a stop if you are close by!!

I stopped here for lunch because it had good reviews on yelp and it was in the right spot between Milwaukee and Duluth on my drive home. I had a great cup of beer/cheese soup and a chicken sandwich which had cranberry sauce on it instead of mayo - what a great idea! The tables and chairs are beautiful pine and very comfortable. The service was quick and everything was clean. After a quick lunch I moved around the room exploring all the wines from all over Wisconsin. With the holidays coming, I stocked up on cranberry wines, meads, a cherry chocolate wine and lots more. I also bought WI cheese and a Mississippi Mud black and brown jug of ale. Can't wait to try them all. Just reading the labels was fun.

I was very pleasantly surprised. Not a lot of curb appeal and looks kind of dark from the outside.. Almost didn't go in. But they have a nice, bright eating area. Food was very good. Club sandwich was among the better I've had. Fed a family of five(incl. three kids) for $24. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Instead of more culvers and pizza hut crap, give this place a try! Also... Lots of cheese, coffee, wine, beef jerky, and even a used bookstore upstairs.

Awesome roadside diner. The burgers were awesome (had the brisket burger, son had bacon cheeseburger), other son had the kids chicken basket, again much better than expected. The $1.50 bottles of Sprechers soda were very tasty and the server was fantastic. I wanted something other than fast food and tried to look up something on Yelp, but had little phone service, so I hope the stars speak for themselves. This place is also known for its cheese and wine, but we were already full of cheese and on the way out. We will definitely stop by on the way to the Dells again!

This is my favorite place to stop while driving from Minneapolis to Madison. It's about half way. They have great coffee (a real stimulant for the second half of the drive.) They also have a great cheese shop, if you want to pick up something for either a picnic or for the end of our drive. They have a very nice ice cream selection. I had a cup of maple nut ice cream. Delicious.
